While some folks choose to only camp during the spring and summer, autumn is an excellent season for RV camping, too! The gorgeous foliage, the crisp mornings, and the peace and quiet you’ll find at campgrounds during the off-season make fall RV travel well worth your while. Here are some things to do to ready yourself and your RV for autumnal camping adventures.

Inspect & Ready Your RV

You’ll need to make sure that your RV is ready to keep you safe while traveling in colder temperatures. Perform a thorough inspection of your RV and get any necessary post-summer maintenance done, such as oil changes, tire rotations, or interior and exterior cleaning. You should also put up some extra insulation, such as window film on all your windows and thicker curtains to block out the cold. Foam insulation in your rooftop vent can help keep warm air in, too.

Pack Appropriately

You’ll need extra supplies for traveling through New England in the fall. You should pack additional warm clothing and waterproof ponchos, along with thick blankets to keep you cozy. Make sure you’ve got extra non-perishable food and plenty of bottled water, in case a freak snowstorm strands you at a campground for an extra day or two.

Also, check on your emergency supplies, such as your fire extinguishers, first-aid kit, and tool kit. You may also want to carry some road salt and tire chains if you’re venturing into areas that are likely to become icy and snowy.

Check Out Cool Fall Activities

Fall is a very eventful time in many parts of New England, so you’ll have plenty of options when it comes to choosing an event to visit with your RV. Try to find local Oktoberfests or cultural festivals to camp near, or look for an arts & crafts fair, a haunted house, a pumpkin patch, or Halloween-themed events in nearby cities. You may also want to choose more scenic routes that are lined with colorful foliage to make the journey more enjoyable.
